Winterization
Winterization is the process of preparing the vegetation of a lawn for the coming winter months, in order to minimize damage sustained during the cold season. This process varies greatly depending on the lawn being winterized, but the most common practices are to:
- Prune any dead or dying materials.
- Clean and thin out larger trees.
- Spray plants with anti-desiccant, creating a waxy coating on the leaves and bark.
- Mulch certain plant types (roses, for example).
- Cut back on perennials.
- Remove clay pots from outside, take them to a garage or temperature-controlled area.
- Watering the plants up until the first heavy freeze of the year.
This is a lot of work, and requires the patience and experience of a lawn care professional. Hicks Landscape Contractors are happy to do this dirty work, so you don't have to! Contact us today to learn more about winterizing your lawn.
